After 2012, all imported EU tyres need to be marked with key parameters

According to PR Newswire on September 13, from September 15th to 16th, the EU Tire Label Directive Technical Response Workshop organized by the China Rubber Industry Association was held in Yantai City, Shandong Province. The association specially invited Mr. Michael Staude, an expert of TUV SÃœD Group (hereinafter referred to as TUVSUD) who had participated in the drafting of the tire labeling directive, to give a detailed introduction to the main contents and implementation requirements of the new directive.

The “Tire Labeling Directive on Fuel Efficiency and Other Necessary Parameters” (hereinafter referred to as the “Tire Labeling Directive”), approved and issued by the EU in early 2009, will be formally implemented in 2012. This is a further restriction of tire safety following the EU REACH Regulation. .

The EU REACH regulations strictly limit the use of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in tires. This act is hailed as the “maximum technical trade measure since China’s accession to the WTO”. On the basis of the promotion of the REACH Regulation, the European Union officially passed the "European Parliament and the European Council's Tire Label Directive on Fuel Efficiency and Other Necessary Parameters" on November 25, 2009. It stipulates that all imported EU tires within the next three years are The key parameters of the tires are marked on the label: fuel efficiency level, wetland grip performance, and external rolling noise.

About 40% of China's tires' annual output is used for export, and foreign dependence is very large. The EU is the second largest overseas export market for tire companies in the United States. In order to allow manufacturers to grasp the latest tire labeling directives as soon as possible, formulate relevant countermeasures, further improve the quality control system, and improve self-inspection and self-control capabilities, the China Rubber Industry Association invited the EU Tire Tag Directive Technical Response Conference hosted by this time. Experts from the Ministry of Industry, Raw Materials, TUV SÃœD, and other related industry experts discussed with the participants the details of the standard and the countermeasures.

In response to the latest tire labeling directive, Mr. Michael Staude from TUVSUD stated that the EU's new labeling directive 2009/1222/EC will be formally implemented on November 1, 2012. The new bill stipulates that newly produced tires should pass tire noise at the same time. The mandatory requirements for wetland and rolling resistance performance, and there are clear performance indicators on the tire product. He pointed out that noise, slippery road performance, and data that characterize the rolling resistance of fuel efficiency cannot be obtained by indoor testing. Accurate and relevant information must be obtained through the tire testing ground. Tire test sites have high investment and high maintenance costs. It is difficult to maintain them when the amount of test is insufficient. In addition, the test rider's ability will largely determine the accuracy of the test. How to train the test driver is also an important issue facing the tire industry.

Experts believe that the promulgation and implementation of the New Tire Label Directive will directly increase the testing cost of imported tires in Europe, indirectly increase the production cost of tires, and encourage consumers to purchase more high-end tires. Although the New Labeling Directive has brought great difficulties to most domestic manufacturers, for those tire production companies that have high-quality products and want to increase product image through investment, it is an opportunity to show customers their advantages. China's tires in the future if we want to continue to gain a firm foothold in Europe, improve product quality has become urgent. How to stabilize the huge EU market is a new challenge for manufacturers.
