Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire 2-17-13

This is from Dieterich Herndobler:

Apologies for the delay in sending the photos, but I managed to capture the collapse of the Still & Box at 9160 S. Green around 0900 hours. I was on my way home from my shift when I spotted the fire. The main fire was in the rear of a large truss roof structure. I arrived just as the first water was being applied. The best view of the flames came from the west side of Vincennes Street, but unfortunately, I didn’t have my DSLR with me, and there was a chain-link fence along with a significant setback between the street and the building. Plus, the scene was backlit, which made it hard to get a clear shot. Initial crews reported some water issues, but once they got water on the fire, it was quickly knocked down.

It’s always tough to get good shots of these kinds of fires, especially when you’re not prepared. I had to make do with what I had—my phone, which wasn’t great for capturing the intensity of the flames. But I think the images still give a decent sense of what happened that day. The fire was pretty intense, and the structure was really compromised. It's a reminder of how fast things can go from bad to worse in a fire situation. I'm glad the crew managed to bring it under control so quickly. I’ll try to send more pictures soon if I have any more updates.
