On Friday, July 10th, at approximately 3:50 PM, Wheeling firefighters and neighboring auto-aid units were called to a confirmed fire at 15 Brougham Drive in the Whippletree Village mobile home community off McHenry Road. The fire was visible for miles due to the intense smoke rising from a burning mobile home. Police officers were on the scene confirming the incident, and the flames quickly spread to adjacent units.
Upon arrival, the first responding units found one mobile home fully engulfed in flames, with fire spreading to both sides. Initial reports mistakenly suggested that two children might have been trapped inside, but this was later proven false. As a result, the first engine company on the scene initiated a defensive firefighting strategy. Both Wheeling engine companies deployed lines, and all auto-aid and mutual aid units provided essential manpower support.
Firefighters tackled the blaze across three mobile homes, facing extremely high ambient temperatures. The original structure was completely destroyed, while the neighboring units suffered severe damage, rendering them uninhabitable. The effort was supported by firefighters from Prospect Heights, Buffalo Grove, Northbrook, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Long Grove, Schaumburg, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Rolling Meadows, Lake Forest, and Lake Zurich.
