Polyurethane industry brewing a new round of best development

China Drying Network News The global economy has continued to slump, and the polyurethane industry, known as the "sunrise industry," has been deeply affected. At the 2012 China Polyurethane Industry Chain Investment and Development Forum held on August 30, the participating experts shared that it is the best time for the industry to brewing a new round of development. The development of core technologies has become a top priority for polyurethane industry innovation. The industry should focus on the development of safe and environmentally friendly technologies, including non-phosgenated isocyanate production technology, propylene oxide direct oxidation technology, reduction and elimination of polyurethane solvent technology, renewable resources biodegradable raw material technology, polyurethane waste products Recycling and recycling technologies, as well as research and development of high value-added, large-scale downstream differentiated products.

The current global isocyanate main raw materials are diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI), toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and polyether polyol (PPG). Its production capacity is shifting to Asia and China, and the marketization of raw materials and downstream products is fiercely competitive. Whoever has the core technology will have the initiative. Zhu Changchun, general secretary of the China Polyurethane Industry Association, said that Yantai Wanhua has mastered its own core MDI technology. Its current production capacity has exceeded 1.1 million tons/year and it has also acquired the Hungarian Bosso company. Together with other expansion projects, Wanhua will MDI became the world's No. 1; at the same time, Wanhua focused on developing the downstream and established a relatively complete industrial chain; since the product quality is better than other brands, its price has been firm.

It is understood that in the last 10 years, China's polyurethane industry has made great achievements in technological innovation, and has laid a solid foundation for breakthroughs in the industry's common problems and core technologies. For example, Yantai Wanhua Group's new MDI production technology for phosgenation and gasification, its key indicators have reached the international advanced level; the waterborne polyurethane adhesive industrial preparation technology developed by the Fujian Institute of Materials Science and Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has achieved and partially surpassed that of similar foreign products; Suzhou Xiangyuan Special Fine Chemical Company's polyurethane elastomer crosslinking cross-linking agent MOCA scale reaches 10,000 tons, leading technology in the world; Shandong Runxing Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. independently develops non-phosgene HDI and electrosynthesis of adiponitrile technology, filling The domestic blank is planning to build an annual output of 100,000 tons of hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and 300,000 tons/year of adiponitrile, and so on.

The deputy director of the Information and Marketing Department of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation Zhu P told the reporter, “The polyurethane industry is like a pyramid, and now it has a spire, ample high-performance raw materials, and the most important thing is to build a strong base for wide pyramids. Develop differentiated downstream products."

He said that some companies in the industry are keen to invest in "imitation" products. This is not competitive, and it also boosts excess production capacity. Under the new situation, companies should shift their investment focus to research and development, develop independent property rights, and "I have no people." Applied products.

Zhu Changchun said that China’s TDI production ranks first in the world in terms of quantity. However, domestic TDI companies have relatively low technological content. We must implement both phosgenization and non-phosgenation technologies to tackle breakthroughs and strive to achieve breakthroughs. . In the downstream, China's thermoplastic polyurethane resin (TPU) production currently uses mostly dry spandex, there is a problem of solvent contamination, and the international use of advanced fusion technology, the final product is a spandex slice. At present, China still needs to import or purchase large quantities of spandex chips from local foreign companies. However, a company in Wuxi is already developing a complete set of equipment for fusion-spinning spandex.

The fierce competition in the market has led to the minimization of corporate profits, coupled with the stereotype that “innovation cannot solve thirst”. Some SMEs are unwilling to invest in R&D. How to change this situation? Zhu Chang pointed out the idea of "open" innovation for the characteristics of the polyurethane industry. First, he encouraged large enterprises to establish R&D centers, systematically ensure investment in R&D, introduce high-end talents, and set innovation goals. The establishment of the Wanhua Group Research Institute has driven the company to a successful path of “innovation and development”. Second, encourage SMEs to set up corresponding R&D institutions; cooperate with domestic science and technology colleges to carry out industrialization projects to avoid single fights and diversify cooperation methods; encourage local new material industrial parks to build science and technology incubators, and government departments provide policy support. For example, the new product listed on the tax deduction. Thirdly, it has developed win-win cooperation with foreign-funded enterprises; after more than 100 years of development, multinational companies have high technological content in production and products, and cooperation with them is a good strategy.
