The flag was presented by Marine Sgt. William Adam Chapman, who is the nephew of two Buffalo Grove firefighters, FF/PM Kevin Hauber and FF/PM James Hauber. Both uncles were present at the event, accompanying Sgt. Chapman as he brought the flag into the meeting room. Chief Terrence Vavra, along with other members of the fire department, accepted the honor on behalf of the community.
Sgt. Chapman shared a heartfelt message about his connection to the fire department, explaining how he thought of his uncles while serving in Afghanistan. He took the initiative to request that the flag be flown in their honor, showing a deep sense of respect and gratitude for their service.
Chief Vavra expressed his appreciation for the gesture, calling it a meaningful act of recognition.
