I just saw this heartbreaking news from the Illinois State Police Twitter account:
**Illinois State Police are mourning the loss of Trooper Brooke Jones-Story (#5966).** She tragically lost her life today while conducting a traffic stop on US Route 20 near Freeport, Illinois. Reports say she was struck by a truck tractor semi-trailer while outside her squad car. The entire ISP family is deeply saddened by this tragic event, and we're all praying for her loved ones during this difficult time. Her service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. **End of Watch: March 28, 2019.**

**ILLINOIS STATE POLICE MOURN THE LOSS OF TROOPER BROOKE JONES-STORY**
**PECATONICA, IL —** Illinois State Police Acting Director Brendan F. Kelly expressed his deepest condolences over the loss of ISP District 16 (Pecatonica) Trooper Brooke Jones-Story today.
At around 11:24 a.m. this morning, Trooper Jones-Story was inspecting a commercial vehicle on U.S. Route 20, westbound, just west of Illinois Route 75 in Stephenson County. Around noon, she was tragically struck and killed when a truck tractor semi-trailer combination hit her squad car as well as the vehicle she was inspecting.
Acting Director Kelly shared, "**Today marks a somber day for the Illinois State Police family. It’s also the six-year anniversary of another officer’s death, and now we’ve lost another courageous member of our team, Trooper Brooke Jones-Story. She gave her life serving the people of this state. Right now, our officers are continuing their duties with focus and dedication, honoring her memory through their work.**"
Trooper Jones-Story served for 12 years with the Illinois State Police District 16 in Pecatonica. Additional details will be provided as they become available.
