On Monday, the Long Grove Fire District was dispatched to a residence located in unincorporated Palatine after reports of a car accident where a vehicle had crashed into the side of the house. Upon arrival, fire officials discovered significant damage to a corner of the brick house, along with an attached enclosed deck that was visibly compromised and starting to pull away from the main structure.
Attached to this post are several images captured by Larry Shapiro, which clearly show the extent of the damage. One photo highlights the structural collapse near the deck area, while another provides a closer look at the firefighters taking precise measurements for the bracing that would later be installed. Ellis clamps were utilized in the rear to stabilize the deck, which was propped up against a large tree for additional support.
As the situation required immediate action, a structural collapse response was quickly mobilized. Long Grove units were joined by reinforcements from neighboring areas, including Buffalo Grove Tower 25, Palatine Rural Ambulance 36, and squads from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Barrington, Libertyville, Lake Zurich, and Buffalo Grove. These teams brought with them specialized technicians who played a crucial role in designing the necessary structural bracing. Additionally, the Division 4&5 roll-off container, complete with supplementary lumber, was requisitioned to restock the dwindling supplies available on-site.
Larry Shapiro was present throughout the operation and shared numerous photographs, including one showing the setup of a cutting station in the driveway, another depicting the installation of vertical braces beneath the deck, and yet another highlighting the final bracing effort. Despite the complexity of the task, the technicians managed to stabilize the deck within less than an hour, averting further potential damage to the house.
The process involved meticulous planning and execution. Workers followed the guidance provided by the structural engineers on site, ensuring each piece of lumber was cut and placed precisely according to specifications. A key moment came when Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51 stepped forward as the primary provider of essential tools and equipment. Furthermore, the MABAS Divisions 4&5 lumber trailer, housed in Round Lake, was brought in via a roll-off tractor to deliver much-needed materials directly to the scene.
Overall, this incident underscores the importance of swift and coordinated responses in emergency situations. The collaborative efforts of multiple agencies not only ensured the safety of the property but also highlighted the professionalism and dedication of all those involved. As always, the community can rest assured knowing that local first responders are prepared to handle any challenge that arises.
The structure of the pump is also not complicated. For example, a centrifugal pump is mainly composed of a pump body, an impeller, a sealing ring, a rotating shaft, a shaft seal box and other components. Each part can be finished by casting process. Then assembled into a complete pump.
