As I arrived at the scene, I could see the extent of the damage clearly. A cutting station had already been set up in the driveway, and firefighters were busy taking precise measurements to ensure the right kind of bracing could be installed. Ellis clamps were being used at the back of the property to stabilize the deck against a large tree, while another vertical brace was being fitted to provide additional support.
The response was swift, with not only Long Grove units but also reinforcements from Buffalo Grove Tower 25, Palatine Rural Ambulance 36, and squads from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Barrington, Libertyville, Lake Zurich, and Buffalo Grove arriving with specialized technicians. The Division 4&5 roll-off container, housing supplementary lumber, was also requested to restock the dwindling supplies on-site.
