Over the past few weeks, several local fire departments organized open houses featuring fire safety demonstrations, exhibits, apparatus displays, fun activities, and food for families. These events provided a great opportunity for community members to interact with firefighters and learn more about fire safety. Here are some highlights from Mundelein, Long Grove, Lake Zurich, Cary, Buffalo Grove, and the Moraine Valley Fire College.
Sam Borica shared some images from the Mundelein Fire Department's open house. They recently acquired a brand-new 2012 Ford Medtec ambulance to replace their older unit, 432. The open house also included an extrication demonstration and showcased their antique fire engine.
Meanwhile, Martin Nowak sent over photos from the Moraine Valley Fire Safety Day. North Palos Fire Department was there to conduct fire demonstrations, while Tinley Park helped out with fire extinguisher training sessions.
Larry Shapiro captured some great shots from the Long Grove Fire Protection District's open house. There were numerous engaging activities and displays that drew in crowds. Additionally, he shared pictures from the Buffalo Grove Fire Department's open house, which featured various pieces of firefighting equipment and interactive displays.
Tyler Tobolt contributed images from Cary's open house, where their new tanker was on full display. He also sent over photos from Elgin's open house, highlighting different fire trucks and vehicles like the MABAS 2 TRT truck, Brush 7, Ranger 7, and Ambulance 2.
These events not only educated the public but also strengthened community bonds with local first responders. It’s always inspiring to see how fire departments engage with residents through such initiatives.
