Still and Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 8-12-18

This message comes from Eric Haak, who shared some photos from a recent fire incident in Chicago. It happened on Sunday evening (08/12), at around 7:00 PM, near 117th and Michigan Avenue. The fire broke out in the basement of an abandoned apartment building above a commercial structure. Firefighters initially tried to tackle it internally but eventually had to switch to a defensive strategy. By the time Eric arrived, most of the fire had been extinguished. Here's what he had to say about the situation: "The fire at this location was quite intense when it first started. It was in the basement of a vacant building, so there were a lot of challenges for the firefighters right from the beginning. They did their best to contain it, but given the circumstances, they had to take a more cautious approach as the situation evolved." Attached are several photos that capture the scene during and after the firefighting efforts. The first image shows Chicago Fire Department’s Engine 75 and Squad 5A arriving on the scene. The second photo highlights firefighters working diligently to secure the area and ensure everything is under control. In the third picture, you can see Squad 5A parked nearby, ready to assist with any additional needs. Lastly, the fourth image features Engine 62, another crucial piece of equipment deployed to manage the blaze. These photos really highlight the hard work and dedication of the Chicago Fire Department personnel. It’s always impressive to see how quickly they respond and work together to protect our community. Thanks to Eric Haak for sharing these images—they provide a great perspective on what transpired that night.
