I just got this update from Larry Shapiro while I’m out running errands. Looks like there was quite a fire in Glencoe last Friday night (September 4th). Firefighters were dispatched to 986 Skokie Ridge Drive around 8:30 PM. When they arrived, they initially called it in as a Code 4 for an active fire, and then quickly escalated it to a Box Alarm to bring in more resources within about ten minutes.
The flames were localized to the basement and the back wall of the house. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident. Larry managed to snap some photos and even recorded a short video from the scene. I’ve added them below so you can get a better sense of what happened.
First up is a shot of a Pierce fire engine with its hose deployed under the night sky. It really shows how intense these situations can get. Next, there’s an image capturing the thick plume of smoke billowing from the ranch-style home. You can see just how quickly things escalated.
There are also some action shots of firefighters scaling a ground ladder and working under challenging conditions. One photo highlights the impressive Pierce heavy rescue squad with its powerful light tower illuminating the area. Another captures the team using their flashlights amidst the chaos.
Finally, there’s a picture featuring a white fire engine parked strategically at the scene, surrounded by various pieces of equipment. For those interested in more visuals, there’s a brief video embedded further down, along with links to additional photos hosted on Larry’s website, shapirophotography.net.
It’s always sobering to hear about fires like this, but thankfully everyone involved seems to have made it out safely. Let’s hope the homeowners can recover from this ordeal soon!
