China's rare giant box girder has recently appeared on the Wuhe Railway

The Wuhe Railway is designed to operate at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour, serving as a crucial component of China's national "Four Vertical and Four Horizontal" high-speed passenger rail network. Once completed, it will act as a vital fast transit route connecting China's eastern coastal areas with the western inland regions, significantly enhancing regional connectivity and economic development.

A rare giant box girder was recently launched on the Wuhan-Anhui (WUA) railway. These massive structures are essential for supporting the high-speed tracks and require advanced engineering techniques. The beams used in this project are prefabricated, large-volume, and heavy-duty box girders, measuring 32 meters in length, 3 meters in height, and 13 meters in width, with an impressive weight of 900 tons—four times heavier than standard railway girders.

The internal structure of these girders is highly complex, featuring dense reinforcement bars, corrugated pipes, and embedded components. Each beam requires approximately 66 tons of reinforcing steel. To ensure quality, more than 300 cubic meters of concrete must be poured in one go, with strict temperature control to prevent cracking. Every stage of the construction process must be meticulously managed to maintain precision and safety.

Workers are working under intense pressure to complete this critical project. The China Railway 25th Bureau Group, responsible for manufacturing the girders, has invested over 100 million yuan in the project. They have established two automated beam-making plants along the Wuhan-Anhui line and mobilized their top engineers and technicians to overcome technical challenges. Their efforts have led to the successful production of the giant girders, providing valuable experience for future projects involving 450 porous beams for large and medium-sized bridges.
