Crash and fire on I94 (Edens) 4-8-12

It was around 4 a.m. when I found myself caught in what turned into a harrowing scene on the Edens Expressway near the Kennedy Expressway intersection. I was driving along when suddenly, two cars whipped past me going way over 100 mph—on opposite sides of my car. The next thing I knew, they both lost control while making that sharp turn. Smoke and debris were everywhere, and all I could do was call 911. I reported two cars on fire and requested an ambulance and a rescue squad because I suspected there might be people trapped inside. The first car, a Cadillac, was completely upside down and already engulfed in flames. I could see both occupants out of the car—one was walking around seemingly okay, while the other needed assistance being pulled away from the wreckage. Meanwhile, the second car, a Porsche, was also on fire further down the road. I stayed on the scene, trying to help until emergency responders arrived. By the time the firefighters got there, they immediately began tackling the blaze with water hoses. One of them even advanced with the hose to get closer to the burning Cadillac, ensuring the flames were under control. Once the main fire was knocked down, they switched to foam to prevent any reignition. In the meantime, the Porsche was carefully inspected to ensure the fire was fully extinguished before anyone let their guard down. Looking back at the aftermath, it’s clear how dangerous the roads can get late at night, especially on highways like the Kennedy Expressway. It's not just about the speed; it's the lack of attention and respect for safety that leads to these kinds of accidents. I’m grateful no one was seriously hurt, but it was definitely a wake-up call for me about the risks involved in high-speed driving, especially during the wee hours. If you want to see more photos from the scene, you can find additional images [here]. And as for me, I’ll think twice before traveling this stretch of road after 2 a.m. again.
