Crash and fire on I94 (Edens) 4-8-12

It was around 4 a.m. when I found myself stuck in what turned into an intense scene on the Edens Expressway near the Kennedy interchange. I was driving along when suddenly two cars zipped past me at what felt like breakneck speed—both on either side of my vehicle. One went left, the other right, and as they took the sharp curve, I witnessed them lose control almost simultaneously. Within seconds, there was chaos—smoke billowing, car parts scattering everywhere. Instinctively, I called 911, reporting two vehicles on fire and the urgent need for emergency services. I mentioned the possibility of someone being trapped and requested ambulances as well. When help arrived, I assisted where I could. From what I saw, the Cadillac had flipped over and was engulfed in flames. Both occupants seemed to have been ejected—one man was walking around while a woman needed assistance getting away from the vehicle. Meanwhile, the driver of the other car—a Porsche—seemed dazed but eventually wandered off only to be found later further up the Edens with other drivers who had stopped to help. The firefighters did an incredible job containing the situation. At first, they focused on extinguishing the blaze with water before switching to foam to ensure no hidden fires remained. Even after the immediate danger passed, crews continued examining the wreckage to confirm everything was under control. It was quite a harrowing experience, especially considering how late it was. The Kennedy Expressway has always felt dangerous to me after 2 a.m., but this incident really drove home just how perilous it can be. For those interested, more photos capturing the aftermath of this accident are available [here]. Honestly, it's moments like these that remind you how quickly life can change—and how important it is to stay vigilant on the roads.
