Lu Xi, director of the Industrial Coordination Department under the National Development and Reform Commission's Industrial Policy Department, recently emphasized in Guilin, Guangxi that China is set to boost the growth of its auto parts industry and build a robust support system for components. This move aims to enhance the overall competitiveness of the country's automotive sector.
At a recent national industrial restructuring symposium, an official from the Industrial Policy Department highlighted that the development of auto parts and vehicles in China has not been well aligned, which has hindered the improvement of vehicle technology as a whole. While joint ventures and partnerships have helped bring the quality and manufacturing standards of finished vehicles closer to global levels, component production still lags behind. The supporting capacity of local parts manufacturers remains limited, with low specialization and weak capabilities in independent research and system integration—failing to keep up with the rapid development of complete vehicles.
The official stressed that China will accelerate the development of the auto parts industry and establish a strong component support system. Efforts will focus on guiding and supporting the industry to grow stronger, promoting the formation of auto parts clusters in suitable regions, and encouraging collaboration between automakers and component suppliers to jointly develop complete vehicles. Component companies will also be encouraged to enhance their R&D capabilities and technological standards, aiming to achieve large-scale production and gain access to international procurement systems. By doing so, Chinese auto parts firms can better compete globally and increase their share in international markets.
This strategic push is expected to strengthen the domestic supply chain, reduce reliance on foreign components, and ultimately position China as a more influential player in the global automotive industry.
