On December 9th, China's first 9000-meter AC frequency conversion ultra-deep well oil drilling rig successfully passed expert review and acceptance at Shaanxi Baoji Petroleum Machinery Co., Ltd. Standing at a maximum depth of 48 meters, this advanced rig represents a major breakthrough in China’s oil drilling technology. It is the first ultra-deep well drilling rig with independent intellectual property developed in the country, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of deep oil rig technology.
The project was part of the national “Tenth Five-Year†plan for the localization of key technical equipment. Baoji Petroleum Machinery Co., Ltd. led the main research efforts, while the Xinjiang Petroleum Administration Bureau served as a key partner in the development. Together, they set a new record for the completion of high-performance drilling equipment in China.
This rig has secured five national patents, and its innovative technologies have filled several domestic gaps. It is currently the most patented drilling rig in China, showcasing a strong focus on independent innovation. The rig employs the latest all-digital AC frequency conversion control system, enabling intelligent operation. Its modular design ensures efficient layout and excellent resistance to extreme conditions such as cold, heat, corrosion, and sand. The design is comprehensive, reliable, and adaptable for various environments.
In recent years, Baoji Petroleum Machinery has become the largest R&D and manufacturing base for oil drilling equipment in China, developing rigs ranging from 1,000 to 7,000 meters. However, the development of ultra-deep well rigs had long been a gap in the industry. With the successful creation of the 9,000-meter rig, China has now reached international standards in this field. This achievement not only strengthens the technological foundation for future high-end oil drilling equipment but also marks a historic step forward in the development of China’s oil drilling industry.
