Ultrafiltration (UF) Waste Water Treatment Systems
Ultrafiltration (UF) systems are designed for water treatment applications across various industries, including chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, food and beverage processing, and wastewater treatment. These systems utilize advanced membrane filtration technology to effectively remove contaminants and improve water quality.
How Ultrafiltration (UF) Systems Work?
Ultrafiltration systems use hydrostatic pressure to push solvents through a fine membrane, which allows water and low molecular weight solutes to pass while blocking larger particles, colloids, and suspended solids. This process is commonly used in industry and research for purifying and concentrating macromolecular solutions, typically with molecular weights ranging from 10³ to 10ⶠDa, such as protein solutions. UF is similar to microfiltration and nanofiltration but differs in the size of molecules it can block.
To meet strict discharge standards, UF systems eliminate the need for clarifiers and multi-media filters. Effective UF systems use membranes that are immersed, back-flushable, and air-scoured, ensuring optimal performance and longevity. Spiral wound UF/MF membranes offer excellent performance for the clarification of process water and wastewater.
Advantages of Ultrafiltration (UF) Systems
- Superior filtration performance with high flux
- Very small nominal pore diameter (0.03 µm)
- Efficient removal of bacteria and viruses
- Periodic backwashing and air scouring to enhance performance and extend membrane life
- Low fouling membrane modules
- UF Outside-In or Inside-Out configurations reduce plugging and allow higher solids loading
- Simple, vertical, modular design ensures cost-effective and compact systems
- Membrane cleaning is effective with high chemical resistance and temperature tolerance
Applications
1. For new or rebuilt sewage treatment plants in large cities
2. This technology can directly process urban sewage into high-quality recycled water for urban greening, landscape water, road spraying, industrial cooling, fire water, residential flushing, and car washing.
3. For small and medium-sized reclaimed water projects in industrial and mining enterprises, hotels, airports, railway stations, hospitals, office buildings, and residential areas.
4. Ideal for small and medium-sized reclaimed water projects due to its space-saving design, flexible layout, on-site water collection, on-site processing, and on-site reuse.
The entire system consists of three main sections: pre-treatment, microfiltration membrane desalination, and post-processing.
1. Pre-Treatment Section:
This section includes multimedia filters, activated carbon filters, and ultrafilters. Its primary function is to remove substances that could pollute the microfiltration membrane. It prevents scaling, colloidal fouling, organic matter fouling, and damage from oxidizing agents, ensuring long-term stable operation and consistent yield.
2. Microfiltration Membrane Section:
This section uses nanometer-level physical apertures to separate, purify, refine, and concentrate substances in liquid.
