Fukuyama has made significant progress in attracting major industrial projects, particularly in the automotive parts and electronic information sectors. A total of 62 auto parts projects have been introduced to the region with a combined investment of 8.6 billion yuan, while 61 electronic information projects have attracted 14.6 billion yuan in total investment. These developments are part of a broader strategy aimed at boosting the city's industrial base and fostering sustainable economic growth.
Recently, a South Korean company, KD Co., Ltd., established a car steering wheel project worth $20 million in Fukuyama, filling a critical gap in the local supply chain and enhancing the city’s automotive manufacturing capabilities. This success is part of Fushan District’s “draw large, attract and strengthen†strategy, which has led to a strong agglomeration effect. In the first quarter of this year alone, the two leading industries—machinery manufacturing and electronic information—accounted for 66.5% of the value added by large-scale industrial enterprises in the area.
To support this growth, Fukuyama has focused on high-tech, high-value, and low-energy-consuming projects. The district has created specialized industrial parks for auto parts and electronic information, promoting cluster development and increasing economies of scale. Efforts in investment promotion have also intensified, using methods like group and chain-based approaches to attract more projects.
A key factor behind these achievements has been a shift in service philosophy. One notable example is the successful attraction of Shanghai Yanfeng Johnson Controls, whose factory was built in just five months to meet production deadlines. This high level of efficiency impressed the company, leading it to not only invest long-term but also recommend Fukuyama to other suppliers. As a result, 17 supporting companies from Shanghai and other cities have since moved to the area, contributing to a wider range of automotive components.
To further improve the investment environment, Fukuyama has developed a service system aligned with international standards, offering full support for project construction and operations. Key initiatives include the leadership package system, regular project scheduling, and a “quasi-zero fee zone†policy. These efforts have helped build trust among investors and contributed to the success of over 209 key projects with investments exceeding 10 million yuan.
During the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" period, the area successfully attracted 73 billion yuan in total investment and over 10 million U.S. dollars in foreign capital, including six Fortune 500 companies. By the end of the period, actual foreign capital use had reached 500 million U.S. dollars, a significant increase compared to the previous plan period. These achievements highlight the ongoing momentum and promising future of Fukuyama’s industrial development.
